Echo of the North
GALTARVITI-LIGHTHOUSE, KEFLAVÍK, SÚGANDAFJÖRÐUR, VESTFJORDS, ICELAND.
In july the art exhibition Echo of The North opened at Galtarviti lighthouse in Keflavík. A number of know artists participated in the month long event (see list below). They all share the experience of having stayed at the lighthouse for work and inspiration over the past years. Galtarviti is a diamond in the flora of Icelandic nature. Only accessible on foot (3 hour hike) or by private Zodiac-boat. There is no mobile phone or internet connection, electricity or central heating. Under these circumstances, one connects to the nature alone, to the spectacular mountains and the open sea. Those who have been at the lighthouse share the longing to return.
The exhibition was thought as a private contemporary art-collection of an imaginary lighthouse-keeper, who has withdrawn into solitary.
